In case you hit a paywall:
Airbnb is suing New Orleans over its short-term rental rules, saying the city is forcing platforms to police listings and hand over booking data, which they argue is unconstitutional. The lawsuit, backed by local property owners, takes issue with a 2023 ordinance requiring platforms like Airbnb and VRBO to verify permitted listings and submit monthly reports.
The city delayed enforcement from March to June, but the lawsuit also challenges restrictions like one rental per block, a live-in operator rule, and a corporate ownership ban—rules put in place after a previous version got shot down in 2022. Other cities, like New York and San Francisco, have pushed similar rules, with legal battles playing out there too.
